Dexter's Week from Hell

Dexter is 6 weeks old.
On the Day he turned 6 weeks things with his health started going south.
I have enough pictures to tell his story with pictures along the way.

The Start of the Week from Hell -
Max and Will were sick in the beginning of the week.  We actually think Will had the flu.
Early Thursday morning Dexter started not breathing well at all.  He wasn't eating and had a hard time catching his breath.  He already has issues with breathing, so this was an immediate cause for concern.  We called the on-call pediatrician and she told us that if he doesn't get better in a few hours to take him to the ER.
At 4:30am Dexter and I made our way to the ER.  He was miserable the whole time we were there.  He was getting hot too, which is never good for anyone.  But for a 6 week old to have a fever is very dangerous.
The ER doctor, who was not good at all.  SENT US HOME!!  She told me "Babies get sick"  "Are you a first time mom?"  "How old are you?"  I understand babies get sick, but this wasn't just a stuffy nose, my baby couldn't breath and his temperature was rising.
I was very upset upon arriving home.  But I listened to my mom gut.  His temperature kept rising.  I called the pediatrician.  We went to the doctors ASAP.
At 2:30 that afternoon we were in the hospital.  Dexter was getting a round of tests done.  I stayed with him the whole time.  Max was with us that first night because we couldn't find anyone to watch hi.  Dexter got a first round of antibiotics that night as well.
That first night was long.  I was going on 24 hours of no sleep and I didn't get any that night either.  Dexter was miserable.  He had no color and wasn't eating.  They gave him fluids through an IV and we fed him breast-milk by syringe.  It was a very long first night.

Dexter is such a good happy baby though.  When he was awake, he was AWAKE and HAPPY.  It was crazy to see him so happy, when we knew by his vitals he was miserable.  He had a fever of 102 and a heart rate that was so high the alarm to alert the nurses would go off all the time.
The second night we facetimed with Will and Max.  Max totally understands facetime now.  It is really fun to talk to him.  He missed Dexter.  Will said he went searching for him in the morning.  I love how much Max loves Dexter.

Don't mind my tired eyes.
This was Friday morning.  Look how HAPPY he is!!  And CUTE!
Max came to visit on Friday afternoon.  He spent the morning with our good friends the Kentworthy's.  Thank you Cami!

He was so interested in my huge breastpump.  Thought it was a time machine or something.
Friday night - this happened!  His fever broke and went back to normal.

Saturday morning after another sleepless night.  (I was going on about 3 hours of sleep in 56 hours, and yes I started counting the hours of sleep I wasn't getting.) Will and Max came back to visit.
We were hoping that we would leave Saturday night or Sunday.
Dexter has a huge fan club.
Dexter got a bath, Max helped.

If you didn't know, Dexter has Curly hair when wet.

On Saturday afternoon the doctor came and talked to us about the results of all the tests.  Dexter has the flu, the Rhino Virus and a UTI.  His body just couldn't handle it so he got a fever.
But the GREAT news was we were headed home!
At home for the next two days, we did a lot of this -
And this -

And finally Dexter slept in his bed.  And I finally got some sleep too!

It was an eventful weekend.  But we couldn't have done any of it with out ALL of the prayers.  Prayer is amazing.  Again and Again I see it work in my life.  I see Heavenly Father's hand on my children as they grow and develop.  I am so grateful for prayer and for GREAT friends and family who were so willing to help us out while Dexter and I were busy in the hospital.  Thank you!
